Edward Schildnecht obit obituary

Edward Schildnecht, 91, Darien Police Sergeant, Volunteer Firefighter, Loved Travel, Golfing, DHS Class of ’51

Edward Schildnecht of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away at home on Friday, May 24, 2024. He was 91. Edward was born and raised in Darien, graduating from Darien High School in 1951.  He then enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served until August of 1953. He returned to Darien to marry the love of his life, June, and raise his family. Edward joined the Darien Police Department in August 1959, retiring at the rank of sergeant after 20 years of service.  His career continued as manager of building security for McGraw-Hill Publishing in their New York headquarters, retiring in 1993.

Dr. Eric David Collins passed away in Greenwich on May 28, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was 62. Born on April 18, 1962  in Garden Grove, California, to Helene and John Collins, Eric spent most of his youth in Laurel, Maryland. He graduated as valedictorian of Laurel High School in 1980, before continuing his education at Yale University. At Yale, he explored his passion for singing and co-founded Mixed Company, an aptly named mixed gender a capella group that continues its performances today.

Thomas William Taylor Sr., a 45-year resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024. — This obituary, originally was published on April 2, now has information on his wake, to be held today, Friday, and his funeral on Saturday: His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road.  A memorial service will be held at Noroton Presbyterian Church at 10 a.m., Saturday June 1. Thomas William Taylor Sr. was born in 1937 to Alva and Mary Taylor in Coshocton, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University and his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. After graduation, he lived in Cleveland, where he met his wife-to-be, Janet Hausser.

Henry William Kelly passed away on May 23, 2024, at the age of 97. Born and raised in the heartland of North Dakota, Henry was a distinguished newspaperman and former publisher of the Walsh County Press. Nearly two decades ago, Henry found a lasting life partner in Donna Kelly. Together, they embarked on a journey that spanned the landscapes of North Dakota, Florida, and North Carolina, before landing in Darien in 2014. In Darien, Henry quickly found his home at Starbucks, where he spent nearly every day sipping coffee, making friends and writing letters.

Anthony graduated from Darien High School in 1957 where he played varsity baseball and developed his love for the French horn. He became an accomplished musician at an early age.

Peter A. Lombardo, formerly of Darien, passed away on May 9, 2024. He was 87. The son of Peter and Josephine Lombardo, formerly of Henry Street in Darien, Mr. Lombardo was the second-born of four brothers. He was predeceased by older brother, Gus, and also Carmen Lombardo, both of Darien. Mr. Lombardo was a graduate of Darien High School, a member of the Connecticut National Guard, and a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1959 to 1963.

Carolyn Schreiner Calder passed away peacefully on Jan. 25. She was born in 1951 to the late Doris Moon Schreider and Samuel Schreider Jr. Carolyn grew up in Darien and graduated from Finch College. In 1979 she married the love of her life, Scott Calder. They were married for 44 years until Scott’s passing in May 2023.

Robert “Bob” Thorn Lamkin died on Jan. 31 at age 95. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the only child of Robert and Amy Lamkin. Bob’s family moved several times during his childhood, settling in Arlington, VA. Bob graduated from the University of Virginia, served in the Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean War, and then obtained an MBA from Wharton.
