Dorothy Norris, 95, Active in Noroton Presbyterian Church, DHS Class of ’45, Enjoyed Golf

It is with a grateful heart that we announce the end to a beautiful life. Dorothy (Dot) Harrison Norris entered eternal rest on March 4, weeks shy of her 96th birthday. Born at Norwalk Hospital on March 31, 1928, an only child to Charles and Dorothy Harrison of Darien, Dot was raised in Darien and graduated from Darien High School in 1945. She went on to receive her degree from Penn State University. Soon after she met the love of her life, Thomas J. Norris, they married in 1950 at Noroton Presbyterian Church.

Matthew Criscuolo recently passed away. He was 79. Matt was born on July 24, 1944 in Agerola, a small town situated high in the mountains along the Amalfi Coast near in Naples. In 1959, at the age of 15, Matt and his family arrived by ship in New York, ready to embark on a new journey in America. Together, with his identical twin brother, Luca, they set out to live the American Dream.

Lance Choos, 64, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Thursday, Feb. 22 at Boca Raton Regional Hospital in Florida. He was born in Highland Park, Illinois to Warren and Ramona Choos. The eldest of his four siblings, Lance was fiercely independent and deeply valued his education. After graduating he enrolled in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he majored in economics and was a founding member of the university’s football program.

Carolyn Schreiner Calder passed away peacefully on Jan. 25. She was born in 1951 to the late Doris Moon Schreider and Samuel Schreider Jr. Carolyn grew up in Darien and graduated from Finch College. In 1979 she married the love of her life, Scott Calder. They were married for 44 years until Scott’s passing in May 2023.

Helen Millin Freeman was born Helen Millin to Richard Bardwell Millin and Helen Taylor Jones Millin on April 20, 1929 in Missoula, Montana, growing up in Salt Lake City and moving to Phoenix, Arizona as a teenager. She met her husband while serving lunch at the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program in 1945 during World War II. They were married in 1950 and moved to Washington, where she served as an organizer in graduate student housing and worked at Boeing as a computer programmer, and then to Berkeley, California where she also programmed vacuum tube computers at the University of California. Helen holds an associate’s degree from Phoenix Junior College, a Baccalaureate from the University of Washington, and a Master of Science degree in education from the University of Bridgeport. She moved to Connecticut in 1958 and joined the Fish Church, spending a year in Stamford before settling in the Springdale section of Darien, where she remained until 1990.

Gary David Eckrich died peacefully with family on Feb. 12, 2024. He was 64. Gary was born on Christmas Day, 1959. In high school, he and his state champion gymnastics team were among the first U.S. students to visit and compete in China after it opened to the west in 1978.

Virgil Wenger, a longtime resident of Darien, passed away Feb. 12. He was 93. Virgil was born on Aug. 23, 1930, in Salina, Kansas to Edward and Rosa Wenger.
