Campus Walk at Darien High School to Help Reduce Suicide

On Sunday, April 30, Darien High School is hosting its first “Out of the Darkness Campus Walk” in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). The walk aims to honor those we have lost and join in the fight to end suicide and reduce stigma associated with those in need of mental health support. The Out of the Darkness Campus Walks are the AFSP’s signature student fundraising series, designed to engage youth and young adults in the fight to prevent suicide, a leading cause of death. Newsies from Thursday, March 16 to Saturday, March 18. — an announcement from Darien High School

Newsies is inspired by the true story of the New York City newsboys’ strike of 1899,
when a ragtag group of newsboys, under the leadership of their beloved Jack Kelly,
banded together to take action against Joseph Pulitzer, William Randolph Hearst and other newspaper publishers who raised the price charged to the newsboys selling papers on the street. Not only is Newsies a history lesson, but it is also a story of love, friendship
and hope for a better life. The show is under the direction of Tim Sorensen, assisted and vocal directed by Kim
Sadler, and choreographed by Emily Frangipane and Kelsey Kaminski.

Police Issue Parking Regulations for Homecoming Football Game at Darien High School on Saturday

The Darien Police Department will enforce traffic regulations and monitor security for Darien High School’s Homecoming football game, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.

All traffic will enter the DHS campus from Noroton Avenue. High School Lane and Nutmeg Lane will be closed to incoming traffic at 12:30 p.m. Spectators are strongly urged to carpool as parking at the high school is limited. Due to the large number of vehicles expected, parking regulations and designated tow away zones will be strictly enforced.

Four Darien High School seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program. — an announcement from Darien High School

Lily Cowles, Ellen Gaaserud, Katherine Kahn and William Moles are this year’s DHS semifinalists. “We are so proud of this exceptional group of students and wish them well as the process moves forward,” said DHS Principal Ellen Dunn. About 16,000 high school students nationwide have been recognized as National Merit semi-finalists. These academically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the program for National Merit Scholarships that will be offered next spring.

Thursday’s Darien High School Open House Will Have These Traffic Regulations, Police Announce

Due to the traditionally large turnout for the Darien High School Open House, the Darien Police Department advises that the following traffic regulations are being put into effect for the area surrounding Darien High School on Thursday Sept. 15 starting at 6 p.m.:

• All traffic will enter the High School grounds via Noroton Ave. Vehicular traffic will not be permitted to enter the area via High School Lane, Nutmeg Lane, Holly Lane, or Libby Lane. Officers will be present to direct all vehicles to appropriate and designated parking areas. • All vehicles will be properly parked so as to facilitate and expedite the safe flow of vehicles at the conclusion of the graduation ceremony.
