Darien DPW Announces: Gorham’s Pond Tide Gates to Open Nov 6 to 15

The Town of Darien Department of Public Works will open the Gorham’s Pond tide gates from Monday, Nov. 6, 2017 with scheduled closing on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2017 for periodic flushing and cleaning of the pond. It is not possible to open the gates after extensive rain storms or a series of very high tides because of the large volume of water flowing over the dam. Therefore, the opening or closing of gates may be delayed dependent on weather.

The Town of Darien paving program for the summer of 2017 is as follows:

Preparatory work will precede paving on all of the above roads. Dates listed above include milling and paving. Road surfaces will have raised structures during these dates.

Center Street North Parking Lot to Get Spiffed up by Darien Public Works Dept

The Center Street North Parking Lot, at least the town-owned part of it, will get its curbs and catch basins repaired, lights replaced and repaving — starting yesterday, April 3 and continuing through May 12, courtesy of the Darien Department of Public Works. The town government recently buried the announcement about it on a back page of its website. Parking is banned from the area under construction as indicated by signs while the work is going on. The work will take place in phases, so part of the area can still be used. The whole parking lot will be unavailable for two days at some point while it’s being repaved.
