For the second time in 10 days, tires and rims were stolen overnight from a car at the Mini of Fairfield County Minicooper dealership at 154 Post Road. The theft occurred Monday or Tuesday, Oct. 24 or 25. This time, the victimized vehicle was an orange 2001 Minicooper. Two other vehicles in the lot were found to have been tampered with, with a lug nut from one vehicle on the ground near it, and a tire iron from another car on the ground near that car, but employees at the dealership found no damage to either car or any items missing from them.

When employees of Mini of Fairfield County arrived at the dealership early on Saturday, Oct. 15, they found a car resting on three milk crates, all four of its tires and rims gone, police said. A store manager said nothing seemed to be amiss when the dealership closed at 6 p.m. the night before. and a cleaning crew was there until about 11 p.m. Employees arrived starting at about 6 a.m. that Saturday, and police were called by 8 a.m.

Both driver’s side windows were smashed in the brown Minicooper S Switchback, probably as a way to get to the car’s tire jack in the trunk and wheel locks in the glove box. A console in the car was also opened and broken.

An employee arriving for work at 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 25, noticed glass on the floor and a broken side window; police were called. A blue bank bag with $25 in dimes, $10 in nickels and $75 in quarters was taken. A small safe nearby appeared to have been rifled through, but it seemed nothing was taken.

It took about 21 seconds for a burglar to break into and steal from the BP gas station at 1358 Post Road early on Sunday, as the surveillance video (below) shows, but it only took minutes more for police to spot the 18-year-old burglar and arrest him, Darien police said. A police news release Sunday afternoon gave this account of the 2 a.m. burglary and arrest:

On July 24, 2016 at approximately 2 a.m. the Darien Police Department received a burglar alarm coming from the BP Station located at 1358 Post Road. Within two minutes, an officer arrived on scene and observed that a glass door had been smashed out and the establishment had been burglarized. This information was then given to other officers who began searching the area for a suspect. In the next few minutes, an officer observed a male subject running eastbound on the Post Road near Ledge Road while carrying a backpack.
