Sylvia J. Vitti D’Ottavio, a resident of Darien for over 60 years, died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, Feb. 21. She was 99.

Sylvia D’Ottavio, 99, passed away Feb. 21. Her wake takes place from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24, and her funeral at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 24.
She was born on Dec. 6, 1923, in Port Chester, New York, to the late Mary and Caesar Vitti. She and Pio married on Jan. 11, 1942. They were married for 65 years before he passed away.
Sylvia worked in the Darien School system for some years as a secretary before retiring and traveling with her husband, Pio, to many wonderful places. She loved being with her family, cooking and baking.
In her earlier years, Sylvia was very active in The Fairfield County Children’s Theater, The Troupers Light Opera Company and also did volunteer work at St. Camilla’s Health Center. Sylvia was also a member of St. John Roman Catholic Church, where she volunteered with CCD classes and also sang in the church choir.
In her spare time, she took up quilling, and she loved giving her Quilling as presents to family and friends. When not quilling, Sylvia loved to read and do crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles.

She is predeceased by her husband, Pio; and granddaughter, Teri Lee. She is survived by her two sons, Eugene and his wife, Bonnie; and Robert and his wife, Marie; her sister, Norma McLaughlin of Mechanicsville, Virginia; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Lawrence Funeral Home. A Mass Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. St. John Church 1986 Post Road Darien. A private family entombment will be held at St. Mary Roman Catholic Cemetery in Rye Brook, New York.
