Darien High School Football Coach Rob Trifone has been suspended for Saturday’s football game after it was determined he had struck a player on the helmet, Darien Schools Superintendent Dan Brenner announced.

Here’s Brenner’s statement, released to news organizations Tuesday morning:

During the course of the varsity football game held at Darien High School on Saturday, Oct. 1, versus Norwich Free Academy, an incident occurred with Head Coach Rob Trifone.

Following the game, Coach Trifone was instructed to not participate in any way with the team until a full investigation took place.

That investigation included speaking with all of the parties involved and getting first hand statements from those in attendance who witnessed the incident.

As a result of the investigation it is clear that Coach Trifone struck a player on the helmet. As a result of this action Coach Trifone has been suspended from his coaching duties through Saturday, Oct. 15.

He will return to coach the team following the suspension. We appreciate the cooperation of all in the review of this matter. We consider this matter resolved, and we wish the Darien football team continued success.
