Sandy was born to John F. and Marie Steck in New Milford on Oct. 20, 1938. After graduating from New Milford High School in 1956 she worked for Southern New England Telephone in New Haven, where she met future husband Bruce Anderson.
The couple married in July 1959 and moved from Darien to New Milford in 1973. She was employed by the New Milford Board of Education for 26 years. She became the secretary to the New Milford High School assistant principal after her husband passed away in 1976.
She wore many hats at the New Milford Board of Education; secretary to pupil personnel, bookkeeper, and payroll administrator before becoming administrative assistant to the superintendent, a position she held for 18 years until she retired in 2000.
Sandy remarried in September 2000 to Leroy E. Ladd and followed through on her dream of traveling across the country; along the way she called Tucson, Arizona, home along with New Bern, North Carolina; and North Fort Myers and Fort Myers, Florida.
Sandy loved country line dancing. She taught multiple dance classes throughout Litchfield County with her sister, Irene Olszanski. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and an avid genealogist and photographer.
She also enjoyed cross stitch and calligraphy which she used to create many family heirlooms. Sandy was active in the community as a New Milford High School varsity cheerleading coach as well as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader. Sandy’s greatest pride and joy was spending time with her eight “grandbabies.”
