Robert Evans Woods Jr. died peacefully on June 29, surrounded by family. He was 77.
The cause of death was aspiration pneumonia. He had recently been re-diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy after having been originally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2018.

Robert Woods Jr., 77, died June 29. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 16, in Darien.
Bob worked indefatigably to keep his symptoms at bay, and indeed always hoped to get back on the golf course. He remained incredibly positive throughout his ordeal, never complaining about his condition. His sense of humor remained firmly intact.
Bob was born Oct. 15, 1947 in Sapporo, Japan to Geraldine and Robert Woods Sr. Bob’s family eventually settled in Darien, and he graduated from Darien High School in 1965. He returned to Darien with his first wife, Saralyn, to raise their family.
After Saralyn passed away, Bob married his wife Mary in 2009 and moved to Rowayton. They moved to Colorado in 2022, where he was a much-loved resident of The Academy at Mapleton Hill in Boulder.
Bob graduated from Wesleyan University and married Saralyn in 1970. He received an MBA from Wharton and joined Citibank in New York City in 1972, where he spent the next 25 years of his career. His time at Citi included building and running its global leveraged finance business and heading up real estate investment banking.
In 1997 Bob joined Society Generale Bank as head of syndicate and debt capital markets. He retired from banking in 2007 and became a consultant for GarMark Partners for three years.
He was a longtime member of the Wee Burn Country Club and Tokeneke Club in Darien, and a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club and Edgartown Golf Club on Martha’s Vineyard.
Bob will always be appreciated for his kindness, humor, intelligence, curiosity and love for his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband and fantastic father and grandfather for both his and Mary’s children and grandchildren.
Bob leaves behind his wife, Mary; his daughter, Avery Woods (Erik Schuchmann); his son, Baker Woods (Nicole); his stepsons, Spencer Corkran and Dillon Corkran (Stephanie); and five grandchildren: Dexter and Milo Schuchmann, Austin and Garrett Woods, and Lainey Corkran. He is also survived by his two brothers, Jerry Woods (Kate) and Chris Woods (Debbie); and his nieces and nephew: Ashley Hollister (Clinton), Robert Woods and Morgan Huffard (Adrian).
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Darien.
