Richard (Ric) James Schulten, beloved husband of Jane Hamlin Schulten and long-time Guilford resident, passed away at home on May 24, 2018. He was 70.

He was born on Oct. 25, 1947 in Easton, PA, and is survived by sons Christopher Schulten of Middlefield, Connecticut, and Mark Schulten of London, England; and daughters Amy Schulten Batchelor of Brooklyn, New York, and Sarah Schulten Slater of Guilford, Connecticut.
A graduate of Darien High School, Ric married his high school sweetheart Jane Hamlin on Aug. 22, 1970. He graduated from New York University in 1970 and the University of Connecticut Medical School in 1974.
He worked for more than 40 years at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven, where he was a highly skilled and much sought-after anesthesiologist as well as an assistant professor of anaesthesia.
Ric was an accomplished endurance athlete, running hundreds of marathons, finishing the Western States 100-mile ultramarathon, and twice competing in the Hawaii Ironman World Championship triathlon.

Ric also enjoyed cycling and often commuted to and from work on his bicycle. He instilled a love of running among his wife, children, grandchildren, and countless friends.
