Whole Foods Market staff at first held a 36-year-old woman and contacted police after they accused her of stealing $58 in merchandise from the supermarket, but then management said they didn’t want to press charges, according to a police report.

Darien police described what happened with this account, including accusations not proven in court:

Although police didn’t charge the New Haven woman with anything relating to shoplifting, they did find that she was wanted on an arrest warrant charging her with failure to appear in court. So she was arrested on that charge.

The incident happened last Thursday, April 27. Police were called to the store at 150 Ledge Road at 11:53 a.m.

The woman had failed to appear in court in connection with a charge that she had violated a New Haven city ordinance (Darien police didn’t have information on the what that ordinance said.)

The woman posted a $99 bond and was released. She is scheduled to appear May 8 in state Superior Court in New Haven.
