This page was created on June 11, 2018.

Darienite.com has been encouraged to set up this privacy policy page by its web hosting service, and nearly all of the information below is from that service (we’ve added a bit of information specific to Darienite.com).

Some of the information below about what user data is collected was news to us. Whatever data on individual users may be available to us, we haven’t had any need or interest so far in getting it or even finding out how to get it. We do keep track of numbers of visitors to the website.

We reserve the right to find out the Web addresses of spammers or, perhaps, hackers, if they become a problem on the site. So far, the Web security services we use have identified hacking attempts (which are routine for any website and almost certainly automated). Disqus, our comments platform, has identified spam accounts, and we routinely block them.

Who we are

Our website address is: https://darienite.com.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website (as many users regularly do for event listings), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
