Michael Brian Grogan, a 38-year resident of Darien, died at home on April 21 after a long illness. He was 86.

Michael Grogan, 86, passed away on April 21. His funeral will take place on May 4.
Michael was born on July 16, 1937, in Mount Kisco, New York. He was son of the late John and Mary Grace O’Brien Grogan. He is survived by his wife, Janet Fitzsimons, sister, Mary Ann Pullen, children, Caroline (Brennan) and John, and grandchildren, Caleb, Elizabeth and Evan.
Michael graduated from Delbarton School as valedictorian and from Princeton University. He then joined the U.S. Navy, where he spent some of his happiest years as a lieutenant on the USS Thomas J. Gary destroyer escort in the Atlantic and as a port operations officer in Saigon.
He worked in international banking for over 30 years, primarily at Bankers Trust in New York, London and Hong Kong. In later years, he taught at Norwalk Community College and enjoyed volunteering in support of local underserved communities. He was a steadfast member of Saint Luke’s Parish and Princeton’s Great Class of ’59.
Michael will be remembered for his unflagging kindness, independent mind, dry wit and devotion to family.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., May 4 at Saint Luke’s Parish, 1864 Post Road, Darien. The service will also be live-streamed. A reception will immediately follow.
