A 58-year-old man working in the back yard of a Plymouth Road home was bitten by a resident’s dog after someone let the dog out, police said.

(Plymouth Road is shown here on a map — which does not point to the exact location of the incident.)

Darien police gave this account of the matter (with accusations not proven in court):

Police got a fax from a Mount Kisco, NY physician’s office about the incident at about 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3. Police then spoke to the victim by phone.

The Lagrangeville, NY man said he didn’t think of calling police about the incident himself. The dog’s owner, a 55-year-old resident of the house, had told him she would keep the dog inside. But the dog got out and bit him in the leg, leaving puncture wounds.

The resident told police the dog had been locked in the kitchen area when the man was working outside. She thought the dog was let out by another person at the house who didn’t know the dog was being kept out of the back yard.

The dog’s owner was given a quarantine order to keep the dog on the property for seven days. Police were able to confirm that the dog had been given its regular rabies shots and was registered. The police report did not mention the type of dog or its age.
