Darien Public Schools and these other places in town have announced they are closed Friday because of the snow or have delayed openings:
Update 3:59 p.m.: The National Weather Service published this list of snowfall totals for various towns in Connecticut. A total of 5.5 inches of snow fell on Darien as of 11 a.m.

UPDATE 12:24 p.m.: Hearst Newspapers report the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield has reopened on the southbound-traffic side, while northbound traffic lanes remain closed after accidents and due to the amount of snow on the highway.
UPDATE: 12:07 p.m.: It’s worse elsewhere in Connecticut, including in Fairfield, where the Merritt Parkway has been closed for a stretch due to an accident, according to State Police.
State police tweeted just minutes ago at 11:58 a.m.: “STORM UPDATE: Midnight-1120a.m. 258 crashes, 84-E CLOSED @X73, Merrit northbound in Fairfield CLOSED X46-47.”
UPDATE: 12:04 p.m.: Now 10 Eversource customers without electricity in Darien. We’re lucky: 125 out in Norwalk, 48 in Westport, one in New Canaan. Most of the power outages are in the eastern end of the state. Here’s the utility’s outage map:
UPDATE: 10:02 a.m.: Eighteen Darien customers don’t have electricity service, according to Eversource.
UPDATE: 9:51 a.m.: The National Weather Service’s “Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow” is in effect for Fairfield County through 1 p.m., the agency announced.
Moderate to heavy snow of 4 to 8 inches may fall with visibility at times down to a quarter of a mile to half a mile, according to the “Winter Storm Warning.”
