On behalf of the Darien Youth Commission and the many sectors of the community who supported the recent DYC’s Annual Halloween Window Painting Contest this past weekend, thank you.
The weather was absolutely perfect for this 20th anniversary celebration with over 100 middle and high school students painting 33 storefronts throughout the community.
Like many of these special events, these activities are made possible as a result of the unique partnership the Darien Youth Commission forges with the public and private sectors.
Again, special thanks to Beth Cherico, visual arts director from the Darien Arts Center for her expert eye in judging the artwork, and to the Depot for graciously allowing us to host our winners’ reception for the winning and honorable mention teams.
Beth’s comment after viewing the participants was: “Holy cow! This year was HARD! So many great and original paintings!”
1st place was awarded to Jem Lee Cleaners painted by Famke Kristensen; 2nd place was awarded Mama Carmela’s, painted by Nora Ashrifeh & Saskia Zimmerman; and 3rd place honor was given to Heights Pizza (the headless woman) painted by Toby Massa.
