To the editor:

As folks prepare for the onslaught of the commercial aspects of the holiday season, we ask people to remember the folks living amongst and around us who are not as fortunate as we are.

There are many opportunities to support our friends and neighbors, but one way in particular not only keeps the donations local but is also a fun activity for the entire community: COMMUNITY-WIDE MOVIE BENEFITING THE HUMAN SERVICES HOLIDAY GIFT DRIVE!

On Monday, Dec. 7, the Darien Youth Commission, the Darien Playhouse, Helping Hand/the Depot and the Darien Human Services Department will be partnering for this annual gift drive.

Editor’s note: If you want to find out more about The Good Dinosaur, see its Disney website or its Pixar website, the Rotten Tomatoes rating (75% positive, their critics say), its Wikipedia article, the first trailer (also further down, below the letter), or the second trailer. You can also see what IMDb (7.4 out of 10) and MetaCritic (66 “Metascore”; 7.6 user score) have to say.

This year’s film is: THE GOOD DINOSAUR. (This film premiered in theaters on Nov. 25 — please consider waiting until Monday, Dec. 7 to bring the whole family to this movie — or come see it again — it’s supposed to be that good!) Doors open at 3:45 p.m.; showtime is 4:15 p.m.

Viewing on the 7th is free to movie-goers. In lieu of payments, attendees are to bring free tickets (picked up at any time on the 7th @ the DYC Office – Room 110, Town Hall) with donations as follows: gift cards (e.g. Barnes & Noble; Walmart; Target; CVS; Walgreens; local eateries; toys, Barrett Bookstore, etc.

Items must be new, unwrapped and have a minimum of $15 value. Each movie-goer is asked to bring a gift.

We all know how members of this community dig deep into their hearts – and pockets – to support those who are experiencing great need. Please consider being a part of this fun event which will directly impact our local neighbors during this holiday season.
