Here’s a rundown of what happened through Saturday, Oct 12 (with Darien players in boldface):

BOYS SOCCER

A balanced attack led the Dragons to a 5-0 road win over the Forman School on Monday.

Charlie Benson (Darien) had two goals and an assist while Will Whelan (Fairfield) and Henry Mcdonald (Westport) had a goal and a set-up each to lead the GFA efforts. Liam Murphy (Westport) also scored while Ethan Lior (Fairfield) and Jack Seegers (Stamford) both had assists.

GFA’s Charlie Benson of Darien, scored four goals last week to help the Dragons running their winning streak to five straight games.

Max Yates (Fairfield) and Ryan Buzzee (Norwalk) both made a save splitting the goalkeeping duties.

One last rush on goal gave GFA a 3-2 win over Rye Country Day on the road on Thursday.

Yates punt from the box found the foot of Benson, who scored with 38 seconds to play, snapping a two-all tie and giving the Dragons the win.

Benson also scored in the first half off a penalty kick while Lior tallied GFA’s second goal.

Yates finished with six saves.

GFA is now 5-4 on the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Host GFA got four goals from four different goal scorers en route to a 4-1 win over E.F. Academy on Monday.

Annika White (Southport), Alex Lind (Fairfield), Jen Llamas (Norwalk) and Camille Ewing (Darien) all scored for GFA while Ryan Boyle (Southport), Margot Goldsmith (Darien) and Liyana Asaria-Issa (Westport) had assists.

Lane Murphy (Darien) had five saves and Marygrace Dellisanti (Wilton) had four saves as the two combined their efforts in goal.

The Dragons gave up two second half goals to fall by a 3-0 count at Suffield Academy.

Murphy made 10 saves as Suffield out-shot GFA by a 15-7 count.

FIELD HOCKEY

Laila Pina (Weston) and Laci Raveis (Fairfield) scored three goals each and had one assist apiece to lead the Dragons to the big 9-1 road win at St. Luke’s on Monday.

Autumn Bartush (Norwalk) added two goals and two assists while Zoe Koskinas (Fairfield) also scored and had an assist.

Nikki Farber (Westport) made five saves.

GFA outshot St. Luke’s 21-6.

Farber had 19 saves on Thursday, but GFA fell at home to mighty Greenwich Academy.

The Dragons only trailed by a 1-0 score 24 minutes into the game before GA up two goals heading into halftime.

GA outshot GFA 24-6.

Keely O’Shea (Darien) scored thrice to lead GFA to a 7-3 win over Holy Child on Saturday.

Raveis added two goals while Koskinas had a goal and two assists on the day. Pina also scored for the Dragons.

In goal, Farber made five saves.

GFA outshot Holy Child by a 17-8 count.

Corners were 9-3 also in favor of the Dragons, who improved to 8-2 on the season.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Greens Farms Academy cross country team took some of its top runners to the big city on Saturday to compete in the 2019 Manhattan Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

The Greens Farms Academy girls team placed eighth as a team in the Varsity-D race with 224 points. Eighteen teams competed.

Junior co-captain Caroline McCall (Westport) finished 23rd overall in 16:56 over the 2.5-mile course. Junior Haley Nilsson (Fairfield) was 48th in 17:08.3 with Georgia Palmgren of Fairfield (18:16.4) and Grace Horton of Fairfield (18:18.8) coming in 48th and 49th, respectively. Paige Parisi of Darien also competed, finishing in 76th with a time of 19:28.3.

A total of 135 runners competed in the girls race.

Junior captain Larson Palmgren (Fairfield) placed 91st in the 180-runner boys Varsity-D field, racing the 2.5-mile course in 15 minutes, 00.1 seconds.

Sophomore Thomas Pendergrast (Westport) raced home in 15:34, for a 114th-place showing.

Also competing in the race for GFA were: Sam McDonald of Stamford (15:45.2), Owen Minson of Darien (17:41.5), Jonty Hammer of Darien (17:41.5), and Conor Minson of Darien (20:17.3).

VOLLEYBALL

The Dragons went to New Haven on Monday to face undefeated Hopkins and fell by a 3-0 score. The Hilltoppers bested GFA 25-7, 25-18, 25-19.

Madison Gordon (Stratford) had six kills and eight blocks for the Dragons. Cayla Bernstein (Norwalk) and Sammy Freeman (Shelton) had four kills each. Meg Nesi (Fairfield) had 12 assists while Jessica Cramer (Wilton) led the defense with four digs.

The Dragons went to St. Luke’s on Saturday and fell to the host Storm by a 3-1 count (25-17, 25-20, 20-25, 25-23).
