First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, in her latest pandemic update Thursday, reported COVID-19 was found in only two-thirds of a percent of all COVID-19 tests of town residents over the past two-weeks. And there wasn’t a single case in the past week.
She was careful in describing how good the shrinkage in the coronavirus is, saying she’s “very pleased and cautiously optimistic” about the low numbers. Stevenson also provided a list of vaccine providers. Her full message is attached, along with the town Health Department’s weekly report.
Students aged 16 and above can now get vaccine shots at the Brunswick School in Greenwich.

First Selectman’s COVID-19 Update
Here’s the full text of Stevenson’s latest report, received by Darienite.com at 5:21 p.m., Thursday:
Good evening. This is First Selectman Jayme Stevenson with a COVID-19 update for Thursday, May 6.
I’m very pleased and cautiously optimistic to report that there have only been five new cases reported in the two-week period since April 22. Darien’s two-week positivity rate has declined to 0.66%. Zero positive cases have been reported this past week. There have been a total of 1,507 cases from 952 unique households.
Darien Public Schools report one active case resulting in seven quarantines. 58% of the Darien population has received at least one dose of vaccine. Given the significant number of residents currently below the age of eligibility, vaccine adoption is very strong.
With positive cases declining significantly, the Darien school administrators with input from local health officials is considering modifications to quarantine policies. The district will provide more information when decisions are formalized.
Darien High School Students who received their first dose of vaccine on May 1 will receive their second dose on May 22. A special Pfizer vaccine clinic for anyone 16+ will be held on Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9 from 8:30 a.m. till 7 p.m. at Brunswick School in Greenwich (1252 King St.). Walk-ins are welcome.
For more information, visit www.ynhhs.org/covidvaccine or call 1 (833) 275-9644. We encourage all students 16 and older, with parent permission, to consider getting vaccinated. Being vaccinated reduces or eliminates the need for quarantining if you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID.
The CDC may rule as early as May 12 on expanding use of the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 12-15. Darien’s Health Department is in conversations with Community Health Center and Walgreens to ensure Pfizer vaccine will be available for our kids.
Darien Vaccine Clinics offer Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines only. Town of Darien clinics operate on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments can be made but are no longer necessary.
If you are due or overdue for your second dose of Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, please don’t delay in getting it. The vaccine is at peak effectiveness two weeks after you have been fully immunized. If you are sick, please stay home and get tested. You can find COVID-19 testing sites under COVID resources on the town’s website.
We continue to await guidance from Governor Lamont regarding modifications to business and personal COVID guidelines for May 20 when emergency declarations and executive orders expire.
You can find a vaccine provider at CovidVaccineFinder.CT.gov or by calling 1 (877) 918-2224.
Local vaccine providers include:
—CVS and
certain Stop & Shop pharmacies.
Statewide COVID-19 data can be found here and Darien-specific data, here. Please visit www.cdc.gov for more COVID-19 information.
To all of my fellow Darien moms and grandmothers, I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend!
Thank you and good evening.
