Greetings from New Coordinator Joan Glass

Sept. 8, 2015

Dear Parents & Guardians,

It is an honor and sincere pleasure to introduce myself to you.  My name is Joan Glass and I’m the new gifted (Idea) program coordinator and teacher at Middlesex Middle School.   My degrees are in History (B.A. Smith College) and Secondary Education (M.A.T., Smith College).  I come to you with rich experience in working with gifted children and families.  As a teacher at Windsor High School, I helped to pilot a new curriculum for gifted ninth graders and for five years I acted as Coordinator for Norwalk’s gifted and talented programs after serving as the Director for the Center for Global Studies (magnet school).   My home is in Derby and I have three children ages three, nine and ten.

We are so fortunate in Darien to have leadership that acknowledges the needs of gifted children and has made a commitment to providing services for them.  Additionally, the Idea program has its very own parent organization, the Darien Association for Education of the Gifted (DAEG), that sponsors events and advocates on behalf of Darien’s gifted children. Please check out their website athttp://www.daeg.org.

My vision for the program includes developing strong partnerships with parents and identifying ways to improve upon the services we provide students and families.  I look forward to meeting all of you at the grade level curriculum presentations in September and October, at your child’s open house, and/or at the coffee sessions offered for families whose children are just beginning the Idea program.  Please see the calendar of events for specific dates, times and locations.  Feel free to contact me any time at jglass@darienps.org or by calling 203-655-2518 x3286.

It’s going to be a fantastic year!

Sincerely,

Joan Glass

Darien Gifted (Idea) Program Coordinator
