With the number of hate crimes in Connecticut rising, the state Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection is inviting the public to a workshop at Darien Library on how the states and local communities are responding to the problem.

DESPP Commissioner Ronnell Higgins, Darien Police Chief Jeremiah P. Marron Jr, and First Selectman Jon Zagrodzky will all be there, along with representatives from the state police Hate Crimes Investigative Unit and the Chief State’s Attorney’s office.

The event runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 22 in the Darien Library Community Room. The event is free, and no registration is needed.
