Drop It & Drive In Darien invites all Darien elementary school students to design a poster that promotes safer driving in our Darien community.
The theme of the 2016 contest is:
“LET’S MAKE DARIEN A SAFER COMMUNITY.
ON THE ROAD = OFF THE PHONE”
- 1st Place — Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5 — $75 cash prize each
- 2nd Place — Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5 — $50 cash prize each
- 3rd Place — Grades K-2 and Grades 3-5 — $25 cash prize each
All current students in grades K-5 (public, private or homeschooled) who are residents of Darien, Connecticut.
Create an original safety/awareness poster that discourages distracted driving, especially cell phone use while driving, in our Darien community. Use the contest message “Let’s Make Darien A Safer Community. / On The Road = Off The Phone” in your entry. Show your creativity while you emphasize why it is dangerous to everyone when drivers don’t pay attention to what they are doing.
Each entry must be an original hand-drawn or electronically-created submission. Entries must be a minimum of 8.5″ x 11″ sized-paper and a maximum of 11″ x 14″ sized-paper in a horizontal/landscape or vertical/portrait layout. Your artwork should appear on one side only. Laminating is not permitted. There is no limitation on the number of colors used.
Poster designs may not incorporate any copyrighted characters (i.e., comic and/or television characters), photographs, and magazine or newspaper illustrations.
Your entry should incorporate the contest theme “Let’s Make Darien A Safer Community. On The Road = Off The Phone.” Entries must be received by the contest deadline of Monday, April 11th, 2016 at 5 p.m. EST. One original design entry per person.
Entries may be emailed as an attachment to email@example.com, dropped off in the Children’s Library at the Darien Library or mailed to:

A panel of qualified local judges from The Darien Arts Center, Geary Gallery and the Darien High School Art Department will select the winners. Entries will be evaluated and winners selected on the basis of their compelling safety message and creative, original, clear and effective design.
The winning entries will be informed in late April 2016 with an award presentation (date TBD) at The Darien Library. Winners will be given further details about the awards ceremony when they are notified of their winning entry.
The winning entries will be displayed at the Darien Library in May 2016 and may be displayed in local newspapers, local websites and on the Drop It in Darien Facebook page and the Drop It & Drive in Darien website.
