Dorothy Spalding, 80, passed away, Sept. 14, 2016, at her home in Florida.

She was born in Ardsley, N.Y., April 16, 1936 to Helen and Kenneth McPhee.

Dorothy grew up in New York with a close family before moving with her husband, William Spalding, to Darien. She later settled in Rowayton, on Belle Island and Pine Point, for nearly forty years, with many summers shared with extended family in a beach house in Milford.

She attended Skidmore College and, while raising her three children, worked as a registered nurse at Stamford Hospital.

She was a member of the Rowayton Power Squadron and with close friends loved sailing on Long Island Sound. She always lived along the water, including building her dream home on Harbor Island, Bahamas, and retired to the Gulf Coast of Florida.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, William Richardson Spalding, Laura Cook Spalding-Frisard, Diane Talbot Spalding-Sembrot, three grandchildren, Meghan, Cole and Lauren, and sister Ellen.

Memorial celebration will be held on Oct. 8, 2016 at 11 a.m. at United Church of Rowayton, 210 Rowayton Ave., Norwalk, CT 06853, with a reception following the services. Memorial Contributions may be sent to Yellow Rose at Skidmore College.
