The deadline is Sunday, Nov. 8 for Darien High School students to enter a design contest to create a limited-run version of the “Drop It & Drive in Darien” logo that reminds people not to use their phones while driving.

Drop It & Drive and the Darien Police Department are hosting the contest to create the logo, which will be distributed as a decal to DHS students.

Here are the prizes:

  • 1st place – $100 cash prize – donated by Fresh Green Light, and have your winning design turned into a car decal. Car decals, donated by Stamford Signs, will be distributed to all DHS students.
  • 2nd place – $50 cash prize – donated by Safe Rides
  • 3rd place – $25 cash prize – donated by Safe Rides

Here’s information from a Drop It & Drive announcement:

Eligibility: The contest is open to all Darien students in grades 9-12. Entrant does not need to attend Darien High School but must be a Darien resident and a current high school student. One original design entry per person.

Entry Format Entries may be digital in JPEG or paper-based. Entries must be received by the contest deadline, Sunday November 8th, 2015 at 11:00PM EST.

Entries may be emailed to dropitanddrive@outlook.com or mailed to W. Ball, 35 Ridgeley Street, Darien, CT 06820. Paper-based entries must be postmarked by Saturday, November 7th, 2015. Paper-based submissions will only be mailed back if an SASE is included with the entry.

Entries must contain the contest entrant’s full name, address, telephone number, grade, and name of school on the back of paper-based entries or in the body of emails for electronic entries.

Designs must measure approximately 4×4 inches, 4×6 inches, round 4-inch diameter, or oval approximately 3 x 5 inches.

Selection Criteria A panel of qualified judges from the Darien Police Department, Fresh Green Light, Darien High School, and Drop It & Drive In Darien will judge the entries and select the winners.

Entries will be evaluated on the basis of three criteria: 1) visibility 2) compelling use of the Drop it & Drive in Darien message – “safety message” 3) creative, original, and effective visual design.

Entries must carry a message or visual image that is visible from approximately 10 feet away and advocate for safe driving/no illegal cell phone use or distracted driving in Darien.

Entries may use “Drop it & Drive in Darien” or a similarly-themed message – textual and/or visual. No more than 3 different colors should be used on the design entry.

The winning entries will be informed in November 2015 with an award presentation (date TBD) by First Selectman Jayme Stevenson and Chief Duane Lovello of the Darien Police Department.

The contest runs Oct. 18, 2015 until 11 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015..
