Dawn Lynch of New Canaan passed peacefully at her home on Sept. 25.

Dawn Lynch passed away Sept. 25.
She was born in Charles City, Iowa to Don and Alda Mallery in 1962. She grew up in Rudd, Iowa on the family farm. She graduated from Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock High School in 1980. She attended North Iowa Area Community College, then worked at many places until attending University of Northern Iowa for a certification in primary education, graduating in 1989.
She moved to Connecticut and became a nanny and freelance babysitter. She met her husband Stephen Lynch at his ice cream store Sweet Ashley’s in Stamford, marrying in 1999. They worked there together in addition to his family business Canaan Distributors. She retired in 2002 because she was expecting her first child, Amber Lynch. She then had another daughter, Megan Lynch, in 2006.
She had a strong connection to her faith and taught Sunday School at Darien United Methodist Church in addition to organizing the Christmas pageants. She adored kids and volunteered at the South School Library and the New Canaan Nature Center.
She always looked forward to traveling, especially to the boardwalk at Seaside Heights, New Jersey and the beaches in St Maarten. She enjoyed taking the family’s boat, “My Three Gulls,” out to Lloyd’s Neck in Long Island and would kayak from the mooring to the sandbar to collect rocks. She would then decorate her waterfall at home with rocks from all the places she traveled. She was especially proud of the wreathes she made using flowers she grew in her garden.
She is survived by her husband Stephen Lynch, daughters Amber and Megan Lynch, and sisters Jodee Gentile, Lynette Harrington and Jill Hiebert. She is predeceased by her parents, Donovan and Alda Mallery.
Her funeral was held Oct. 6, followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan. Donations may be made to Child Fund.
