Darien Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Days, Thurs, Fri & Sat

Darien Sidewalk Sale Days have returned, with food trucks by Webster Bank starting Thursday and other events, especially kids’ events, on Friday and Saturday.

Stores downtown and in the Noroton Heights business district are participating. Remember, the full name of the event is “Darien Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Days,” and there are many events for children to participate in, along with sidewalk bargains for adults.

Especially if you’re visiting a number of stores in town for Sidewalk Sale Days this is also a great weekend for your kids to start participating in the “Where’s Waldo?” contest (more on that below).

Starting Thursday, there’s a “Family Fun Word Search” drawing at the Darien Chamber of Commerce tent. On Friday, kids can get their faces painted and see a circus stilt walker and juggler (downtown in the morning, at Noroton Heights in the early afternoon).

Most of the events take place Saturday, including a Post 53 ambulance tour, a tour of a fire truck and a backyard obstacle course. (See the schedule below for details.)

There’s also free coffee at The Dock Shop, 51 Tokeneke Rd. all day on Friday and Saturday.

“The Darien YMCA will be at the Sidewalk Sales July 9-11. Weather for Darien through Saturday:

As of 8:56 a.m., Thursday, the National Weather Service is predicting pretty good weather for a sidewalk sale: a slight chance of rain Thursday afternoon, partly sunny weather on Friday and sunny weather on Saturday. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 78 degrees Thursday and be in the mid-80s on Friday and Saturday.

Play ‘Where’s Waldo’ in Darien in July

Once again it’s time for the town wide scavenger hunt to find Waldo in participating shops. This has become a popular summer activity and a fun way to visit local merchants and support the Shop Local movement.

Pick up your passport here at Barrett Bookstore with a list of all the places where Waldo is hiding.

Each time you find Waldo, the store will stamp or sign your passport.  Find ten spots and come to pick up your Waldo button here at the book store.

Those diligent seekers who complete their passports can hand them into Barrett Bookstore and be entered into grand prize drawing.

On Friday, July 31 join us for the “Waldo Wind-Up” party — refreshments, raffle, prizes, and a top prize of a 6-volume deluxe set of Waldo books.
