Connecticut Tax-Free Week starts on Sunday and means you won’t be paying the state sales tax on most items of clothing priced (or sale priced) at less than $100. The state won’t charge for taxes through the week (ending Saturday, Aug. 22).

Tax Free Sales WeekThere are certain rules about tax-free buying that you may want to be aware of (for instance, athletic shoes used only for athletics — think soccer cleats — still have a tax on them). For details, see this Web page on the state Department of Revenue Services website.

The first day of school for the Darien school district is Monday, Aug. 31 (a week before Labor Day). The school calendar is here.
