Darien Library announced these coming events for children and teenagers during Children’s Book Week, May 1 to 7, and during the rest of May.

Dog Man

Jr. Book Club: Dog Man by Dav Pilkey

Monday, May 1st at 4 p.m.
Join us for a book discussion of Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man followed by a craft or game inspired by the book. Open. Grades 2-3.

Patricia Reilly Giff

Meet the Author: Patricia Reilly Giff

Tuesday, May 2nd at 4 p.m.
Come and meet Newbery Honor-winning author Patricia Reilly Giff, the author of more than 60 books for children including Pictures of Hollis Woods, Lily’s Crossing, and Winter Sky. Ms. Giff will discuss her work including her latest book Genevieve’s War which is the companion to Lily’s Crossing. There will be a book signing with Patricia after the program. Open to all! Barrett Bookstore will be on hand to sell books.

A Monster Calls

Read. Watch. Discuss: ‘A Monster Calls’

Wednesday, May 3 at 4 p.m.
Read the book, watch the movie, and have a discussion in this unique book group. This time our R.W.D book and film will be “A Monster Calls” by Patrick Ness. Due to the nature of this book, we recommend this program for ages 10 and up. Open.

This film is rated PG-13 and runs for 108 minutes.

Book Ball

Thursday, May 4 at 5 p.m.
Celebrate Children’s Book Week dressed as your favorite book character. There will be dancing, refreshments, games, and a photo booth. Ages 4 and up. Register!

Wednesday, May 17 from 4 to 5 p.m

Want to learn about 3-D printing? We will discuss 3-D printing technology and design our own 3D printed items. Grades 3 to 6. Register!

Registered: Sewing Plushies
Wednesday, May 24 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Join us as we sew plushies to that you can cuddle and love! *Basic hand sewing skills are a prerequisite for this class. Grades 3 to 6. Register!

Registered: Washi Tape Journals
Wednesday, May 31 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Have a blast decorating journals with colorful Washi tape, stickers, and more! Grades 3 to 6. Register!

Learn the basics of computer coding language in this fun series! Grades 3 to 6. Participants attend all three sessions. Register!

Toddler Tales

Walkers (up to 36 months) and a parent/caregiver. This fast-paced storytime for lively toddlers includes books, songs, fingerplays, and movement.

Baby Laptime

Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.
Pre-walking babies and a parent/caregiver. Join us for fingerplays, songs, and bounce rhymes in this lapsit storytime.

Storytime Saturday

Saturday, May 6 at 11 a.m.
Walkers (up to 36 months) and a parent/caregiver. This weekend storytime for families will include some of our favorite books, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.
