Two legendary founders of The Rascals, Felix Cavaliere and Gene Cornish, have teamed up for the first time in five years. They’ll be playing in Downtown Stamford on Wednesday, July 18. The outdoor event starts at 6:30 p.m.

With hits that include “Groovin’,” “People Got To Be Free” and “Good Lovin’, The Rascals are widely considered the best ‘blue-eyed soul’ group to come out of the 1960s and their music is the soundtrack of a generation.

About the Presenter
Gil Harel (PhD, Brandeis University) is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from classical repertoire to jazz and popular music, as gwell as opera, medieval, and renaissance music. Previously, he has served on the faculty at CUNY Baruch College, where he was awarded the prestigious “Presidential Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching”, as well as the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. Currently, he teaches at Naugatuck Valley Community College, where he was recently presented with the coveted “Merit Award for Exemplary Service to the College.”

Ratso and Friends will play Friday, July 6 at Grove Street Plaza as part of the Darien Summer Nights concert series. This year John “Ratso” Gerardi will be joined with Scott Spray on bass, Fonda Feingold on keyboard and Vito Liuzzi on drums.

John promises a concert to remember as he has a few surprises ready for the crowd. Ratso and Friends have been playing Blues on Grove Street Plaza to a large and adoring audience for years. Sugar Bear, a seven-piece band that performed in the Darien Summer Nights concert series last year is back again for a performance from 6 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, June 29, at Grove Street Plaza. The band performs unique renditions of classic rhythm & blues, classic rock, soul, reggae, country and contemporary songs. Lead singer Henry Jones of “The David Henry Project” established the band in 2015 with an A-list of great musicians and singers. Sugar Bear performed for the first time last year at Darien Summer Nights to rave reviews and they are excited to return to the stage! All Darien Summer Nights concerts are free.

On Friday June 29, Darien Summer Nights welcomes Henry Jones and his band, Sugar Bear. Henry, who was formerly the lead singer of “The David Henry Project”, started his own band in 2015.  

Sugar Bear is a seven-piece band that performs unique renditions of classic rhythm & blues, classic rock, soul, reggae, country and contemporary songs. Summer Season of 50 Shows Starts at Westport’s Levitt Pavilion This Week

The Levitt Pavilion in Westport boasts 50 shows this summer during weekends and weeknights including some big-name acts, kid-friendly Wednesday shows — and it’s all for free. You just have to fight traffic to get there from Darien. The Levitt features music, dance, comedy, theater and sometimes films in an outdoor setting through Aug. 25 this year, when Melissa Etheridge performs at the Levitt for a fundraising concert. The start of the season begins Sunday night, June 24 with a Neil Diamond tribute act that has already sold out.

Alive@Five, downtown Stamford’s Thursday night summer concert series, begins this Thursday, June 28 with Gavin DeGrawwith on stage, and the day before, the Wednesday Nite Live series begins in the same place, with the O’Jays. Seven happy contestants or contestant teams walked away with awards and prizes at the culmination of Saturday night’s  2018 Darien’s Got Talent show at Darien High School. Saturday night’s the night, June 23, when 21 finalists from Darien and neighboring towns compete in Darien’s Got Talent at Darien High School. The event starts at 7 p.m.

New Canaan Library is pleased to welcome back award winning, internationally acclaimed musical duo Atwater-Donnelly, performing their compelling blend of traditional American and Celtic folk songs and percussive dance music. The performance takes place on Saturday, June 23 at 12 noon in Christine’s Garden, corner of Maple Street and South Avenue, adjacent to the Library and across from the Farmer’s Market. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket for seating; please register for this program online. Elwood Donnelly and Aubrey Atwater blend beautiful harmonies and play an astonishing array of instruments including guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, mandolin, tin whistle, harmonica and banjo. What exactly they will perform is always an unknown, because first they ‘read’ their audience.

The first night of this year’s Darien Summer Nights concerts at Grove Street Plaza will be Friday, June 22, featuring Bad Dog Buddy. A number of new bands have been added to the series, which will run through Sept. 21. The free concerts run from to 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Bad Dog Buddy is a group of local friends from Darien, New Canaan, Westport and Wilton.  They met playing together in the adult program at the New Canaan School of Rock and through a shared passion for performing live music formed a band!
