During the Aquarium’s “Full Tummies, Happy Tummies Weekend,” each guest donating a non-perishable food item will receive discounted Aquarium admission. Adults receive $5 off admission of $19.95. Children save $3 off the regular price of $12.95.

You can bring more than one food item per person, but the discount does not multiply.

The food drive is part of The Maritime Aquarium’s Closer to Our Community initiative, which engages the popular family attraction (and its visitors) in ways that benefit the local community.

All of the food donated during “Full Tummies, Happy Tummies Weekend” will go to Person-to-Person of Norwalk, a community-supported agency that provides emergency assistance for basic needs, and support for individuals and families as they move toward stability.

Person-to-Person’s vision is communities of financially stable hunger-free homes, with educational opportunities for all. Get more details about the organization at www.p2phelps.org/norwalk.

Saturday, Dec. 5 also is “Salute Norwalk Day,” when The Maritime Aquarium offers free Aquarium admission to all Norwalk residents with proof of residency.

“Norwalk residents won’t need a food–drive discount on Dec. 5 because they receive free admission through ‘Salute Norwalk Day,’” said Dave Sigworth, the Aquarium’s spokesman. “But we still encourage Norwalk residents to help their neighbors in need by donating canned fruits, canned soups, cereal, peanut butter or other non-perishable foods.”

Dec. 5 & 6 is a great weekend to take advantage of the Aquarium’s admission deals. Highlights of the weekend include:

• Opportunities to see and take pictures with Santa Claus. “Shark-Diving Santa” will take the plunge among the Aquarium’s large sharks both weekend days at 12:15 & 2:15 p.m. And on Sunday, Santa will greet youngsters and accept wish lists while sitting on a Neptune-themed throne between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (when he’s not diving with the sharks). Bring your camera to snap a keepsake memory. The Santa visits are free with Maritime Aquarium admission.

• Students of the Talent Education Suzuki School (TESS) in Norwalk will present a holiday concert on Saturday at 3 p.m. Founded in 2005 to create a unique music school that is true to the Suzuki philosophy, TESS offers a comprehensive year-round curriculum in a nurturing setting unlike any other instruction in Fairfield County. TESS bills itself as the premier center in Fairfield County for exceptional musical instruction. Learn more at www.musicattess.com.

• The Aquarium’s 14th annual “Festival of Lighthouses Contest” featuring 22 artfully designed and cleverly imaginative large model lighthouses. Follow these unique beacons through the Aquarium galleries and then vote for your favorite. (The lighthouse with the most votes as of Jan. 18 wins $1,500!)

Plus, remember that paid admission is never required to shop in The Maritime Aquarium Gift Shop, which has great holiday gift ideas for everyone in your family.
