Aline Marcelle Messer (Duchaine), of Riverside, Calif., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the age of 77, after a brief struggle with ovarian cancer.
Aline was born to parents Edward and Marcelle Duchaine on March 30, 1940, in Manhattan, New York. She grew up as the eldest of 4 and attended Darien High School in Darien. She earned her bachelor of science degree from California Baptist University in 1990.
In 1964 Aline married Richard (Dick) Messer and the couple had three children whom they raised in Riverside. She had a long and gratifying career as a student advisor at the University of California, Riverside political science department, retiring in 2004.
She was very active with her hiking and bicycle clubs, her dogs and agility training, crocheting, quilting and organizing many clubs and events in her retirement community.

Aline is survived by her son, Richard (Rick) Messer; her daughter, Denise Fridge (Messer), and Tom Fridge; and daughter, Dawn Battles (Messer), and Craig Battles. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jacqueline Kasnot (Messer), Megan and Jason Fridge and Olivia Battles as well as her three siblings, Albert Duchaine, Dewey Duchaine and Luci Arson.
A small memorial will be held at Villa Magnolia Mobile Home Community Clubhouse at 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017. The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
