The Broker Academy, now in its second year, will have Weekly training sessions for program readiness will be held in May and in-person classes begin June 5. The program is open to all Connecticut residents, and applications will open Feb. 27.
“As a result of recent legislation, some people who were eligible for Medicaid as part of the COVID-19 public health emergency may lose their eligibility in the coming months,” said Access Health CT Chief Executive Officer James Michel. “Because of this, it’s more important now than ever to have trusted brokers in all communities in our state, particularly underserved communities of color, who will be most affected by this Medicaid unwinding.
“These new brokers will serve as a resource to these residents, and help them navigate the healthcare system, get enrolled in quality health insurance plans and prevent coverage gaps,” he said.
AHCT is hosting free virtual Broker Academy information sessions. These sessions will take place Feb. 7, Feb. 21, March 7 and March 21 from 6:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. To register for any of these sessions, click here.
The Broker Academy Program was created as part of AHCT’s mission-driven approach to reduce health disparities and drive change within underserved communities. The Program aims to help reduce health disparities and uninsured rates by embedding a network of trusted health coverage experts in Connecticut’s traditionally hardest-to-reach communities.
Broker Academy candidates will receive free training, a three-month apprenticeship with an experienced broker, professional development and program support.
Community collaboration is essential to the success of the Broker Academy. If you are part of an organization and are interested in recruiting qualified candidates or a licensed broker who would like to serve as a mentor, please email AHCT.BrokerAcademy@ct.gov.
