AAA Northeast Names Delamar Greenwich Harbor as One of Its Four-Diamond Hotels

The 82-room designer hotel at 500 Steamboat Road overlooking Greenwich Harbor joins 10 other properties in the state — with five others in Litchfield, Fairfield and New Haven Counties — that AAA has recognized for its world-class service, facilities and amenities.

In fact, Delamar Greenwich now joins its “sister” properties — Delamar Southport, a Diamond holder since 2011; and Delamar West Hartford, another first-time Diamond holder this year — to earn this rating.

Attaining a Four or Five Diamond rating is an accomplishment that signifies meticulous attention to detail, creativity in enhancing comfort outstanding service and memorable guest experiences, said Fran Mayko, AAA Northeast spokeswoman.

Such properties undergo numerous inspections, including in-person inspections, anonymous overnight stays and a review by a panel of experts to ensure credibility.

In Connecticut, the Northwest corner is also home to one Five Diamond property: Winvian in Morris, which has earned the prestigious Five Diamond for the ninth consecutive year for its unusual 113-acre property with 19 cottages of varying themes.

“These outstanding Connecticut properties are truly the best of the best,” Mayko added. “And we’re quite fortunate to have seven of the 11 ‘Diamonds’ right in AAA Northeast’s backyard. AAA Northeast serves members in Litchfield, Fairfield and New Haven Counties.

In addition to the Delamar Greenwich and Winvian, other “Diamond” properties in AAA Northeast’s territory include:

• The Homestead Inn, Greenwich, that has earned a Four Diamond for 15 consecutive years;
• Delamar Southport, for 8 consecutive years
• Hyatt Regency – Greenwich, for  7 consecutive years
• The Mayflower Grace, Washington, for  4 consecutive years
• Madison Beach Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton, Madison – 2 consecutive years.

Diamond properties in the rest of the state, outside AAA Northeast territory include:

• Mohegan Sun Sky Tower, Uncasville for 17 consecutive years;
• Saybrook Point Inn & Spa, Old Saybrook, 17 consecutive years
• Grand Pequot Tower at Foxwoods, 16 consecutive years
• The Fox Tower at Foxwoods, 10 consecutive years

Each year, AAA inspectors visit nearly 27,000 hotels across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, using the Diamond rating system to guide AAA members when choosing places to stay and eat.

Of that number, just 0.4 percent receives the prestigious Five Diamond Award; while fewer than 6 percent receive the Four Diamond. Currently, 121 properties hold the coveted Five Diamond and 1,722 hotels hold the Four Diamond rating.
