Folly is selling these metal crickets for $10. They're about seven inches long, and even if you hate insects, you'll be comfortable with these.
Kids and adults looking for fun and bargains flocked downtown and to Noroton Heights, crowding sidewalks on Thursday, the first of three days of the Darien Sidewalk Sale & Family Fun Days.
Runners Roost and some other shops outside of downtown also had items out in front of their storefronts Thursday. Stores are offering discounts and, in a few cases, free food samples. (Check out the $50 men’s watches at David Harvey Jewelers.)
The sales and fun continue through Saturday, when plenty of events are scheduled for kids.
After retiring from the Darien Nature Center after 20 years, Lynn Hamlen opened Folly at 1082 Post Rd. two years ago. She's filled it with vintage garden furniture.

Hamlen said there used to be a lot of stores like Folly Design Elements in Fairfield County, but she doesn't know of one like it now. She usually buys single "vintage" items or small lots, and she now gets a lot of designers coming to the store. "I basically buy what I love, and if others like it, that's good."
You could get a lollipop and dog treats from Malcolm Hall, vice president and business development officr for Darien Rowayton Bank at the table in front of the bank on Thursday.
