An announcement from the Darien League of Women Voters:
The League of Women Voters of Darien will kick off the 2015 -2016 year on Thursday Sept. 17 with a program titled, “Messages that Work: Tips and Tales from the White House to the Board Room,” featuring Katie Burke.
Burke is executive in residence and professor of communications at the Sacred Heart University School of Communications and Media Studies.
The program will begin at 11 a.m. with high tea, including scones, sandwiches, salad and sweets at the Country Club of Darien, 300 Mansfield Ave. The ticket price is $40.

Katie Burke is one of the country’s leading political and corporate communications strategists, with nearly two decades of experience at the highest levels of government and business.
Katie was previously Global Chair of Public Affairs for Edelman, the world’s largest public relations firm. During her six years at Edelman, Katie also served as Global Chief of Staff, managing key elements of the firm’s strategy and operations.
After leaving Edelman, Katie was employed by Nielsen, a leading global institution measuring consumer behavior, where she managed all aspects of global communications, marketing, public affairs and thought leadership.
Previously, Katie served as communications director for the Rudy Giuliani Presidential Campaign and held the same position for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s historic re-election campaign in California.
Before joining the Schwarzenegger campaign, Katie served as director of television news in the White House where she was the chief liaison and spokeswoman for all television network executives, anchors and producers and was involved in a wide range of issues including foreign policy, national security, and economic policy and Supreme Court nominations.
Katie was a senior spokeswoman and director of broadcast media for the Republican National Committee (RNC) during President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign.
Her political career began as a staffer for U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays, where she reached the positions of communications director and policy advisor after working her way up from answering the telephones in his office. Katie earned her masters in public policy and Administration from the London School of Economics and graduated with honors from Skidmore College.
Katie and her husband David live in Rowayton, with their three-year-old daughter, Charlotte.
