Darien police recently announced an online service allowing the public to send in anonymous tips through a website. Now police have announced that anonymous tips can be texted.

Here’s the latest police announcement:

The Darien Police Department has partnered with Motorola Solutions to provide a fully anonymous crime tipping service that allows Darien residents to send tips to the Darien Police and for tipsters and tip recipients to anonymously communicate back and forth if further information is needed.

The new service, called TipSoft, allows residents to report crimes they see in a variety of manners. Tips can be submitted online at www.tipsubmit.com, via text by sending a text message to “CRIMES” (274637) with the keyword darientips from a mobile phone, or through the TipSubmit mobile app.

The tool allows users to submit photographs and videos in addition to tips for further details. This program can also be accessed on the department’s newly launched “smart website” at www.darienpolice.org.

“We encourage Darien residents to use TipSoft to report information about any non-urgent illegal activity you know of,” said Chief Duane Lovello of the Darien Police Department. That activity could include missing persons cases, vandalism, theft, the sale and distribution of drugs and other non-emergency cases.

Additionally, residents can sign-up at www.tipsoft.com to receive important alerts on issues such as crime, fugitives, Amber Alerts, and other community emergencies.

The adoption of TipSoft is part of the Darien Police Department’s effort to use new technology to connect and engage with Darien residents to build relationships and increase safety.

If you have a smart device, you can also submit tips by downloading the TipSoft application. For more information on this service, or to submit a web based tip visit www.tipsoft.com.

About TipSoft by Motorola Solutions

TipSoft provides an avenue for the Darien Police Department to anonymously communicate back and forth with residents about crimes and other illegal activity, such as vandalism, theft, or drugs.

TipSoft is successful because it uses technology that is familiar to citizens allowing them to carry on an anonymous two-way conversation with law enforcement without requiring them to speak directly to an officer.

TipSoft is proven to help stop and solve crimes. To date, the TipSoft system, used across the country, has received more than two million tips, resulting in 145,000 arrests, 55,000 fugitives caught, and more than $5.3 billion recovered in drugs and property – including 11,000 vehicles and 22,000 weapons.
