In addition, this workshop will describe how parents can support this important developmental work at home. This workshop will be offered  in the evening on Jan. 13. (See below for specific information)

The YWCA will host their annual Kindergarten Readiness workshop on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. The location will be announced. [See the poster, reprinted at the bottom of this article.] The Darien Public Schools staff will present on “The Day in the Life of a Kindergartener in Darien Public Schools” in additional to answering questions. We will also offer another workshop for parents of students with Individual Edcuational Plans (IEPs) that will be presented by the Special Education Department. (See below for specific information.)

Session 1: Preschool to Kindergarten

Jan. 13 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Darien Public Schools headquarters, 35 Leroy Ave.

This workshop is designed for parents of all children eligible for Kindergarten in the fall.

This information session will:

•  Develop an understanding of the stages of learning

•  Explain how children learn to read, write, spell, and do math

•  Provide parents with many strategies to support their child at home

 

Session 2: Preschool to Kindergarten

Feb. 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.

Snow day: Feb. 24 11 a.m. to 12 noon

This workshop is designed for students withIndividual Education Plans (IEPs)

This information session will :

•  Explain the articulation process and thestructure of the PPT meetings

•  Introduce the elementary school SESS Facilitators

•  Outline the services offered by the Darien Public Schools

•  Explain the creation of  individual plans for students
