Darien P.D. arrest photo of Patricia Howard, 64, of Vermont Terrace in Tuckahoe, New York.
The director of the assisted living residence told police on Jan. 2 that a resident’s American Express card had been stolen.
The victim told police that unauthorized charges had been made on the card to businesses or organizations in multiple states, including New York and Colorado.
According to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website, at least one of the thefts took place on Dec. 21, 2024.
Police conducted an extensive investigation involving evidence from video surveillance, license plate reader data and credit card transaction records linking Patricia Howard, 64, of Tuckahoe, New York, to the theft and use of the stolen card.
Darien Police did not say whether or not Howard worked at Selleck’s Woods.
Police applied for and were granted an arrest warrant charging Howard with taking a credit card without the owner’s consent, illegal use of a credit card, first-degree identity theft and second-degree larceny.
Howard was detained as a fugitive from justice in New York state. She waived extradition and last Wednesday, May 21, she was taken to Darien Police Headquarters.
Howard, of Vermont Terrace in Tuckahoe, New York, was held on a court-set bond of $60,000, which she hasn’t been able to pay.
She appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford on Thursday, May 22, where her bond was reduced to $50,000. She still couldn’t pay it, so she remains in jail. Her next court date is Aug. 5.
