Purse With Money in It Stolen While Movers Were in a House

A small purse with $200 in cash in it was stolen from a bedroom closet in a home on Harriet Lane on Friday, Sept. 13 while movers were in the house, Darien police were told the next day. Although movers were in the house from about 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m., no one from the moving company had any reason to open the closet or touch the purse, the complainant told police. The purse was known to be missing by 5 p.m.

Also in the purse were personal identification papers, Social Security cards and passports. Some foreign currency that was in the purse was found on the closet floor.

A Pembroke Road woman looked outside to see a woman with a package in her hands, and the woman thought the package was being delivered — as it was being stolen. Here’s what police said about the theft:

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, a woman heard a vehicle pull into her driveway on Pembroke Road. When she looked outside, she saw a woman on her front porch holding an Amazon package. The woman didn’t think anything was wrong because she assumed the package was being delivered.

Police: Engagement Ring Became Missing from Home During Period When Contractors Were There

A Darien woman’s engagement ring went missing sometime between April 8 and April 10, a time period when contractors were doing work in her house on Fitch Avenue, police said. The woman had put the ring, valued at $30,000 on or in her nightstand, police were told. Contractors who were working in the house were questioned by police, but denied they knew anything about the ring or where it could be, police said.

George Peele, a 20-year-old friend (at least at the time) of a Darien man, stayed overnight in the man’s room while the man was gone, according to police. Here’s what happened, Darien police said (including accusations not proven in court):

At about 4 p.m. the next day, Wednesday, Jan. 9 the man’s father saw his 2017 Jeep Cherokee being backed out of the driveway. The keys to the Jeep had been in his son’s room. Police entered the vehicle information into law enforcement databases as stolen.
