Open Call for Artists for Holiday Gift Show at Rowayton Arts Center

The Rowayton Arts Center is seeking original, handcrafted works for the organization’s annual Holiday Gift Show. The RAC will accept small ornaments and holiday-related items as well as jewelry, pottery and ceramics, candles, wooden toys and items, small furniture, knitted or crocheted items, fiber art, original cards and small prints or paintings. — an announcement from Rowayton Arts Center

Proceeds from the Holiday Gift Show, which runs from Nov. 26 through Dec. 24, are used to support RAC and its educational outreach.

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “In the City,” will be on view this Sunday, May 23 until June 20, 2021. This themed exhibition features 70 pieces of artwork by area artists in all media. The opening reception takes place Sunday, from 4 to 6 p.m., is free and open to the public. — an announcement from Rowayton Arts Center

The chair for the show is Bruce Horan and the co-chair is Joel Flora. The judge for the exhibition is Amy Simon, owner of Amy Simon Fine Art in Westport.

‘Artists in the City: From Masters to Modernists,’ Online Lecture This Wednesday

A free, online lecture by ArtScapades, “Artists in the City: From Masters to Modernists,” is being offered at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 26 by The Rowayton Arts Center. — an announcement from Rowayton Arts Center
ArtScapades will look at how artists portrayed cities in their works, from 17th century realistic cityscapes to 20th century abstract metropolitan views. Included in this lecture are work by Johannes Vermeer, Camille Pissarro, John Sloan, Edward Hopper, Piet Mondrian, Georgia O’Keeffe and more. Visit rowaytonarts.org to sign up and a Zoom invite will be sent out to each participant. Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman began ArtScapades in 2009 after teaching art appreciation in the New Canaan public school system in order to share their knowledge with adults who wanted to learn more about art history.

The Hu Lindsay Memorial Award was established in 2016 for the top winner (Best in Show or 1st Place) in the Mixed Media Category for RAC’s annual Abstraction exhibition. This cash prize of $250 honors the life of Hu Lindsay, an active exhibiting member for many years and RAC President from 2007 to 2013. A reminder: The gallery will be closed this week to prepare for the opening on April 18.
