The Museum of Darien will hold an open house Sunday, March 23, where visitors can see objects from the museum’s archives, including the unseen “Darien Review” bound-books dating back to 1924. — an announcement from the Museum of Darien

Museum educators will lead guided tours of the historic homestead, offering insights into life in early Darien. Visitors can also explore the museum’s current exhibition, “Darien Dresses Up!”, with curators Lynn Sheppard and Cynthia Stamm on hand to talk about the evolution of style and fashion in town. If You’re Going … This free event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 45 Old King’s Highway, next door to Old King’s Market (formerly known as Goodwives Shopping Center).

‘Hiking Ruins of Southern New England’ A Lecture by Former CT State Archeologist

The Museum of Darien will host the lecture: Hiking Ruins of Southern New England, by Nicholas Bellantoni, Connecticut state archeologist, emeritus, on Thursday, May 9, from 7 to 8 pm. — an announcement from the Museum of Darien

Bellantoni will bring his passion for history and archeology to life by narrating various hikes through Revolutionary War history, stone ruins, “castles,” and areas of natural beauty on public lands open to hiking — all illustrated in his new book available at Barrett Bookstore in advance, and on the museum website. Bellantoni serves as the emeritus state archaeologist with the Connecticut State Museum of Natural History and is adjunct associate research professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Connecticut. He received his doctorate in anthropology from UConn in 1987 and was shortly thereafter appointed state archaeologist. His duties were many, but primarily include the preservation of archaeological sites in the state.

The Museum of Darien is hosting two Sip & Create Workshops in the new year. — an announcement from The Museum of Darien

Both workshops are from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the museum at 45 Old King’s Highway (next to Goodwive’s Shopping Center) and include a glass of wine or champagne:

—The Victorian Terrarium Workshop ($95) led by Melissa Kelley on Jan. 25, uses traditional plants such as ferns and gravel. The class includes a hand-blown glass container, plants, flowers, succulents and gravel, and all materials needed to create a beautiful terrarium. —The New England Needlepoint Workshop ($65) This hands-on class will show you the basics on how to create your own needlepoint creation and includes a needlepoint kit.
