Phone Stolen at Dunkin Donuts, Tracked to Area of Dubois St

A teenager whose phone was stolen at Dunkin Donuts last Friday was able to track it to “the area of” Dubois Street before the phone was turned off, according to police, who said they intended to check the store’s video record. The case, reported to police at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 13, shows two typical tools used when cell phones are reported stolen: the “Find My iPhone” feature now on many of Apple’s iPhones, and video surveillance records from store cameras. (Both tools also have their limits — video records don’t always capture a good image of a person; as in this case, when a phone is turned off, the finder feature stops workinCe.)
The 16-year-old Darien teenager told police that she was sitting at a table in the downtown Dunkin Donuts at 967 Post Road with a friend at 3:30 p.m. After a few minutes, they left, but she left the cell phone behind on the table. ____________
