Board of Ed Appoints New Mental Health, Security Directors for Darien Schools

The Darien school district has hired two new directors, one for mental health, and the other — the current police chief of New Canaan — for security. Director of Mental Health
Dr. Alycia Dadd will assume the position of director of Mental Health in March 2023. Dadd currently serves as director of consultation services at Cognitive and Behavioral Consultants of Westchester and Manhattan. She currently coordinates training and consultation services to over 100 school-based mental health teams in 35 districts. “Darien’s resounding call to action around the current student mental health crisis compelled me to explore this unique opportunity to return to public service,” Dadd said.

Social Emotional Learning Expert Presents Workshop for Darien Public Schools Parents

On December 6,  Dr. Marc Dr. Brackett will provide a parent workshop in Darien on Social Emotional Learning. Dr. Brackett is a Yale professor, founder of the Center for Emotional Intelligence, lead developer of RULER, and the author of the book, Permission to Feel. Parents of all grade levels are invited to attend. The workshop will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This is an excellent opportunity for parents to learn a little more about the RULER framework that teachers and students are using in school.

Schools Superintendent to Parents: What to Remember for Darien’s New School Year

Some typical school bus snafus cropped up this past week since Darien schools opened on Monday, but the new school year opened “relatively smoothly,” district Superintendent Alan Addley told parents in an announcement emailed on Friday. “We appreciate your patience as we make final adjustments to some busing routes,” Addley said. “Typically, these settle down by the end of the first week of school.” In his email, also addressed to staff members, he thanked everyone “for making this first week of school a tremendous success for the students. There was certainly shared anticipation, joy and excitement as the school doors reopened to welcome everyone back to school.”
