John Callahan Moler passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016. He was born June 8, 1926, to Rosemary and Harold Moler in Oklahoma City, Okla. He graduated from Classen High School in 1944 and served in the Pacific as a signalman 3rd class before graduating from Oklahoma University and marrying his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Golson, in 1949. They had one daughter, Carey Loraine.

Marjory June Diemer Menzel, Age 90 of Williamsburg, Va and formerly Darien, died peacefully on Nov. 18, 2016. She was born March 3, 1926 in New York City to Elmer Clyde and Charlotte Lillian Diemer. Marjory grew up in Westchester County, N.Y. She attended Columbia University and worked for Marshall Field’s as a buyer in New York City. She met her future husband Rene Menzel at the Anchor and Saber Club in New York City.

Ungemack, Fannie Petroccia, age 91, of Stony Creek passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Fannie was the beloved wife of Robert E. Ungemack for 67 years. She was the daughter of John and Lottie Petroccia, born in Old Brookville, Long Island on June 12, 1925, moving to Darien at age one where she and Robert raised their own family. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York, Fannie became a landscape designer working first in her family’s business, The Gardener’s Center in Darien, and then partnering with her husband in Robert E. Ungemack Landscaping Associates.

Richard L. Herrington, 86, of Dartmouth, Mass. and formerly of Darien, passed away Nov. 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Elsa A. F. (Von Steiger) Herrington with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Stony Point, N.Y., the son of the late Albert E. and Edna L. With great sadness we announce the passing of Jill Elisabeth Goldsack of Charleston, S.C on Friday, Nov 4, peacefully at her home on Johns Island, surrounded by her family and dogs. 

Born Jan. 6, 1943 as Jill Elisabeth Raymond, the only daughter of deceased parents Jurgen and Gertrude Raymond of Darien. Born and raised in Darien, Jill attended Low Heywood School in Stamford, Rollins College (1960 to 1962) in Winter Park, Fl., and graduated (Class of ’64) from Finch Women’s College in New York City with a bachelor of arts degree. After some travel and working as a script girl in advertising in New York City, she married Ronald Macdonald Goldsack in 1970, both then relocating to Caledon, Ontario, Canada.  She became a proud mother and nurtured her interests in horses, dogs and gardening. In 1995, she discovered her passion for the south and relocated to Bray’s Island, Sheldon, S.C.  In 2005, she moved to the city of Charleston, spending her summers at her seaside cottage in Harpswell, Maine and her winters golfing in Naples, Fl.

Gail Oglee Hathaway, age 79, of Yarmouth Port, Mass. and Wellfleet, Mass., formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4 at Brighton Gardens in Stamford, surrounded by her three loving sons ending a 10-year, off-and-on-battle with lung cancer. Born in Philadelphia to the late Frank and Dorothy Humphries Oglee, she had resided in Darien, raising her family before moving off on her own to her beloved Cape Cod. As a young girl, Gail had a love for family, academics, music, art, literature and her parents’ retirement home (Windsong) in Wellfleet.
