John Callahan Moler passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016. He was born June 8, 1926, to Rosemary and Harold Moler in Oklahoma City, Okla. He graduated from Classen High School in 1944 and served in the Pacific as a signalman 3rd class before graduating from Oklahoma University and marrying his high school sweetheart, Betty Jean Golson, in 1949. They had one daughter, Carey Loraine.
Marjory June Diemer Menzel, Age 90 of Williamsburg, Va and formerly Darien, died peacefully on Nov. 18, 2016. She was born March 3, 1926 in New York City to Elmer Clyde and Charlotte Lillian Diemer. Marjory grew up in Westchester County, N.Y. She attended Columbia University and worked for Marshall Field’s as a buyer in New York City. She met her future husband Rene Menzel at the Anchor and Saber Club in New York City.
This marks the passing of Robert Harrington “Bob” Clark. He worked hard. He played hard. He lived his life filled with a passionate determination to make the world a more orderly and better place. Both markers of the true Marine that he was.
Charles F. Stewart Jr. passed away peacefully on Nov. 11 from complications of Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by his loving family. He was 83. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on May 30, 1933, the son of Charles F. and Elinor (Leudinghaus) Stewart.
Kim Fairey died Nov. 8, in Norwalk after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer, fought with hope and amazing courage, sadness and joy, and ineffable grace. Born March 27, 1958 in Pittsburgh, Kim grew up in Austin, Texas, having moved there before her first birthday. She attended Polly Sisto’s Nursery School, then Dill, Casis, and O’Henry schools. She graduated as valedictorian from St.
Ungemack, Fannie Petroccia, age 91, of Stony Creek passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 1, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Fannie was the beloved wife of Robert E. Ungemack for 67 years. She was the daughter of John and Lottie Petroccia, born in Old Brookville, Long Island on June 12, 1925, moving to Darien at age one where she and Robert raised their own family. A graduate of the Parsons School of Design in New York, Fannie became a landscape designer working first in her family’s business, The Gardener’s Center in Darien, and then partnering with her husband in Robert E. Ungemack Landscaping Associates.
Richard L. Herrington, 86, of Dartmouth, Mass. and formerly of Darien, passed away Nov. 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Elsa A. F. (Von Steiger) Herrington with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Stony Point, N.Y., the son of the late Albert E. and Edna L. (Hoyt) Herrington, he had resided in Darien for over 50 years before moving to Dartmouth, Mass. two years ago.

Born Jan. 6, 1943 as Jill Elisabeth Raymond, the only daughter of deceased parents Jurgen and Gertrude Raymond of Darien. Born and raised in Darien, Jill attended Low Heywood School in Stamford, Rollins College (1960 to 1962) in Winter Park, Fl., and graduated (Class of ’64) from Finch Women’s College in New York City with a bachelor of arts degree. After some travel and working as a script girl in advertising in New York City, she married Ronald Macdonald Goldsack in 1970, both then relocating to Caledon, Ontario, Canada. She became a proud mother and nurtured her interests in horses, dogs and gardening. In 1995, she discovered her passion for the south and relocated to Bray’s Island, Sheldon, S.C. In 2005, she moved to the city of Charleston, spending her summers at her seaside cottage in Harpswell, Maine and her winters golfing in Naples, Fl.
Coleman J. Alexa, 97, of Palm City, Fl., passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 7 under the tender loving care of Treasure Coast Hospice. He had taught 9th grade students in Darien public schools. He was born on Oct. 9, 1919 in Fairfield to Vera and Andrew Alexa.
Susie Arana, of Kingston, Mass., passed away on Nov. 8. She was 54. Susie was born March 25, 1962 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of William and Faith Gray and Bill and Nancy Turner. She grew up in Darien before moving to Boston and later settling in Duxbury, Mass.
On Monday, Nov. 7, Georgie Brown passed away peacefully with her husband of 68 years, Don Brown holding her hand. She was 91. Everyone who knew her was touched by her compassion, her philanthropy and her lifelong service to others. Born on Jan.
Gail Oglee Hathaway, age 79, of Yarmouth Port, Mass. and Wellfleet, Mass., formerly of Darien, passed away peacefully on Nov. 4 at Brighton Gardens in Stamford, surrounded by her three loving sons ending a 10-year, off-and-on-battle with lung cancer. Born in Philadelphia to the late Frank and Dorothy Humphries Oglee, she had resided in Darien, raising her family before moving off on her own to her beloved Cape Cod. As a young girl, Gail had a love for family, academics, music, art, literature and her parents’ retirement home (Windsong) in Wellfleet.
Janet Brendel Montgomery, a resident of Darien, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Darien. She was 83. Born on Aug. 2, 1933 in Quincy, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Emelyn and Louis Brendel.
James A. Clements (Jim), 87, husband of Sally Gessler Clements, of Naples, Fl., and formerly of Darien, passed away on Oct. 23. Jim was born in Suffern, N.Y. to F. Paul and Adelaide R. Clements on May 11, 1929. He graduated from Suffern High School and then St. Lawrence University.
Marlene A. Sagnelli passed away on Nov. 5. She was 82. Born March 27, 1934 in Stamford to Anna and William Morganstern, she was raised in Stamford, where she met her husband of 64 years. They resided in Darien until relocating to Cumming, Ga.
