14-Year-Old on a Bike Gets Broken Bone After Car Strikes Him in a Hit-and-Run

A 14-year-old boy was knocked off his bicycle when it was struck by a vehicle, resulting in the boy getting a broken bone and bruises Thursday morning on Old Kings Highway South near its intersection with Locust Hill Road. The dark-colored car left the scene without stopping, and police are asking that anyone with information about the matter to get in touch with them. In an announcement Friday morning, police provided these further details:

At about 8:50 a.m., the boy was riding his bicycle on Old Kings Highway South toward Locust Hill Road. He crossed from the west to the east side of the street as he approached the intersection. At the same time, a vehicle traveling west on Locust Hill Road turned right onto Old Kings Highway South.

Darien High School Student, 16, Gets Minor Injury After Hit by Car Outside School

A 16-year-old Darien High School student was struck by a car and received a minor injury as students were entering the school just before 7:36 a.m., Monday in the “sports loop” driveway in the back of the school building, according to Darien police. Police gave this further information about the incident:

The girl, who fell to the ground when she was struck, was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital for further evaluation. The driver, a 55-year-old man, was issued a ticket charging him with failure to use due care to avoid a pedestrian, an infraction. The man was driving around the loop at a very low speed. DHS Principal Ellen Dunn sent an email to parents and guardians at 8:41 a.m. to inform them about the accident.
