Raphaël’s Bakery of Greenwich is expanding into Darien with the opening of its second location, the shop recently announced.
Darien customers can now visit the family-run bakery in Heights Crossing, 370 Heights Road, to taste a blend of French tradition, local charm and artisanal craftsmanship.
Raphaël Dequeker, originally from the Brittany region of France, is a third-generation pâtissier/boulanger whose earliest memories are of cutting strawberries in his parents’ pastry shop.

Raphael’s Bakery is in Heights Crossing, 360 Heights Road, near the corner of Heights and Hollow Tree Ridge Road.
At just 16, he began an apprenticeship under a maître chocolatier in Paris. Raphaël went on to train alongside culinary legends such as Alain Ducasse and Pierre Hermé, and worked in some of France’s most celebrated kitchens, including Le Louis XV in Monaco and Ladurée in Paris.
In 2003, Raphaël moved to Greenwich with his wife, Charlotte, and their three sons for a job as head pastry chef at Valbella. After nearly two decades there he took the leap in 2020 to open his own bakery at 140 Mason St. in Greenwich.
“We’re so excited to grow and open this new location in Darien,” Dequeker said. “What you taste at Raphaël’s Bakery is the product of passion, fine ingredients, hard work, and a lifetime of experience. Everything we make is baked on-site — with heart.”
The bakery is truly a family affair. Charlotte manages operations behind the scenes, while their sons — Kelian, Bastian, and Titouan — are often found behind the counter and were the driving forces behind the new Darien location. They all learned the craft from their father and are now the proud fourth generation of bakers.
