John Stephen Geoghegan a long time Darien resident, died on Tuesday May 9, 2023 at his home. He was 98 years young.
Born Feb. 11, 1925 in Memphis, he was the son of John and Lily Geoghegan.
John worked at Norden Systems for many years in Norwalk.
John was also a military World War II Navy veteran and war hero receiving a Purple Heart for his service and being shot in the line of duty.
He served actively in the U.S. Navy during World War II and in the Navy reserves until 1975. During WWII he was awarded the distinguished flying cross for successfully guiding his aircraft to a safe landing onto the U.S. Wasp aircraft carrier with the use of radio controls.
John had a love for flying and continued to fly planes way until his late 70s.
He was a member of the Darien Senior Men’s Association and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. He was a long time member of the United Church of Rowayton.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty whom he was married to for almost 60 years until her death in 2004; his son, Robert Geoghegan; and his sister, Edith Bell.
He is survived by his two sisters, Lily Wildey and Lois Doherty, and his son, John Geoghegan of Marina, California. He was survived by his son Edward Geoghegan and his daughter-in-law Stephanie Maker-Geoghegan. He is also survived by his five grandchildren Jessica, Johnny, Madelyn, Elizabeth and Skylar.
He will be loved and missed.
