Fairfield University’s Graduate Programs Get High US News Rankings — and Even Higher This Year

Fairfield University’s nursing school and business school already get high national spots for various specialties in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings, and they got even higher this year.

Each of the nearby university’s programs in finance, marketing and business analytics at the Charles F. Dolan School of Business improved its standing in this year’s report and are among the Top 20 in the U.S., the university said in an announcement.

The business school’s Accounting Program was ranked at No. 26, nationally and No. 1. in Connecticut. The school’s Business Analytics, Finance and Marketing programs were also ranked No. 1 in the state. The part-time MBA program is ranked No. 76, nationwide.

Marion Peckham Egan School of Nursing & Health Studies was ranked No. 73, nationwide, for nursing programs with master’s degrees and No. 74, nationwide, for programs with Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees.

The best overall business school in the country, according to the magazine, is the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, with Northwestern University’s school in second place.

Fairfield University is a Jesuit, Catholic University with more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Where the Business Programs Ranked

The magazine’s list of best graduate business specialty programs for 2023-2024 (graduate school name in parentheses):

• Finance — No. 17 nationally, between No. 16 Fordham (Gabelli) and No. 18 Creighton (Heider)

• Marketing — No. 15 nationally, between No. 14 Fordham (Gabelli) and No. 16 Boston College (Carroll) and #16 Cornell (Johnson)

• Business Analytics — No. 18 nationally, tied with Santa Clara (Leavey), and between No. 16 Northwestern (Kellogg), No. 16 Arizona State University (W.P. Carey), and No. 20 North Carolina State (Poole)

• Accounting — No. 26 nationally, tied with MIT (Sloan) and University of Wisconsin

• Part-Time MBA — No. 76 nationally, (a tie) and No. 2 in Connecticut

Where the Nursing School Programs Ranked

Among the nursing schools that offer master’s degrees, the Egan School ranked #73 in a tie with four schools, and tied with Quinnipiac for #2 in Connecticut, behind Yale.

From the magazine’s rankings for Best Graduate Schools – Nursing for 2023-2024:

• Among schools with master’s programs, ranked No. 73, nationally (tied with four schools, including Michigan State and Quinnipiac); No. 2 in Connecticut among schools with master’s programs.

• Among schools with Doctor of Nursing Practice programs, the school ranked No. 74, nationally (in a four-way tie with Florida Atlantic University, Old Dominion University and University of Missouri-St. Louis) and No. 2 in Connecticut (tied with Quinnipiac and behind Yale).

The School of Nursing has 47 full-time faculty members. The total graduate nursing enrollment is 246.

How the Rankings Were Done

Ranking factors include a “peer assessment score” based on fall 2022 and early 2023 surveys that asked business school deans and MBA program directors to rate the overall academic quality of the other part-time programs on a scale from marginal (1) to outstanding (5). A school’s score is the average rating of all the responses.

U.S. News and World Report’s rankings of nursing master’s and DNP programs are based on factors including faculty resources, research activity, quality assessment, program size and student selectivity.
