A Walmsley Road man struck an elderly person’s arm in a July 27 domestic violence incident, then violated the terms of his probation six days later when he pulled a door shut on the hand of the same person, Darien police said.

Each incident resulted in the arrest of William King, 49,  of 8 Walmsley Road. Police said they have been called to the house on multiple occasions for similar reasons. (On May 25, Bridgeport police arrested a William King with the same middle initial and birth year on a charge of second-degree breach of peace, according to the Connecticut Judicial Branch website.)

Darien police described what happened with these accounts (including accusations not proven in court):

In the first incident that led to an arrest, police arriving after a 10 a.m. call found King outside the house and the victim inside. He said he had been in an argument with the victim about who was going to do the laundry, part of ongoing tension between the two, but that no physical contact had occurred.

But King struck one of the victim’s forearms, according to the victim, and officers saw a large bruise on the back of the victim’s arm. The victim said the bruise had occurred a few days before, but refused to say how it got there. The physical contact happened when the victim went to a phone to call police, but King tried to grab the phone, instead striking the victim’s arm.

King was charged with third-degree assault on an elderly person and interfering with an officer. His bond was initially set at $1,000 and by 9:45 a.m. the next day, he was released and appeared in state Superior Court in Stamford. A protective order was issued barring King from assaulting the victim.

Six days later, on Aug. 1, King spoke with Darien police to tell them he wanted to drop off items at the house for safekeeping because his car was going into a shop for repairs and he didn’t want anything stolen from it. He asked for police to be present, but a police officer advised King he could go in the house if the door was unlocked, and otherwise to call police.

At 9 a.m., police were again called to the home, where they again found King outside the house, near his vehicle. He said he had opened the door, but the victim was in the way. The victim then held the glass door shut firmly. He said he stepped back because he didn’t want to get into an altercation.

The victim told police that King had brought items into the house and that the victim had held the door open for King, but while doing that, King had pulled the door shut on the victim’s hand. Police saw a cut on one of the victim’s hands.

Police arrested King again, this time on charges of disorderly conduct, assault on an elderly victim, both misdemeanors, and violation of a protective order, a felony. His bond was set at $10,000, which he later posted.
