Having served on the Board of Trustees since 2018 and as president since 2022, Mathus has consistently provided thoughtful guidance and dedication to the organization’s goals.
“Elizabeth’s passion for conservation and proven leadership skills set her apart during our selection process,” said Amy Sarbinowski, newly appointed president of the organization and member of the Search Committee.
Mathus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in design and environmental analysis from Cornell University. Her professional background in commercial interior design with the architectural firm Swanke Hayden Connell, combined with her involvement in various school parent associations, underscores her diverse skill set and commitment to community service.
Reflecting on her appointment, Mathus expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead the implementation of the land trust’s recently adopted strategic plan. “I am honored to continue serving alongside the talented and committed individuals at the Darien Land Trust,” said Mathus. “Together, we will build upon our achievements, strengthen community partnerships, and advance our mission of land conservation.”
The Darien Land Trust website has a bit more about Mathus:
“Elizabeth moved to Darien in 2015 with her husband David and two sons. She is a native of Ithaca, New York […]. Elizabeth […] has been very active in several school Parent Associations, including serving as treasurer. She and her family spend part of the summer on Twin Lakes in Salisbury and their 1766 home in Westbrook that they have been restoring since 2002. In addition to interior design, Elizabeth enjoys graphic design, painting, gardening, walking their tireless 3-year-old lab and playing tennis. She and David have been members of the Darien Land Trust since 2015 and have enjoyed the annual Farm to Table Dinner.”
